You have put together that product in WooCommerce but you forget something. Maybe the SEO settings, or, worse yet, the product image. Creating a to-do list can help you avoid those mishaps.
As with any other WordPress site, an editorial calendar and tools to help your workflow are important to have in place. We wrote a post on PublishPress that gives you the tools you need.
But having that to-do list is another option that can save you time and hassles down the road.
Creating That To-do List on Your WooCommerce Product Pages
PublishPress has a feature called Checklist. We use it ourselves and find it invaluable. Although you can set this for posts and pages as well, in this example, I am going to show you the product side only.
Here is where you find the general settings. Notice that you can toggle pages, posts and products off and on. You can also add a warning icon if something has not been completed. And if you really want control, you can hide the publish button if the checklist is not complete.
Next you will see the default list items for products that are requirements per post type. Several of them allow you to add a minimum and/or maximum number such as product categories, tags, etc. Also, you have a few options for each one of these:
We can also add a custom item to the checklist, with the same options, but of course, not the min or max choices.
For this example, I have set a warning icon, a custom item and a few different actions.
In the product page you can now see a couple of things. By the publish button, there is a warning icon, which signifies that the list is not completed. Below that is the checklist for what has been completed. The last one, confirm price, is the custom item so it will need to be toggled manually before the warning icon will be removed.
Also, there were two requirements I also set. The first was that if there wasn’t at least 15 words in the products description, it would give a warning message if I tried to publish. In addition, I had the featured image (or product image) set where if it wasn’t added, it would prevent publishing.
As a result, when I click publish, this is the warning that I get. Since one of them is set to avoid publishing, there is no option but to go back and set the product image.
Lastly, what if I did toggle the hide publish button on?
You can see before and after it was turned on.
Notice that if I don’t manually toggle off the price confirmation, which I had added as a custom item, the publish button is not showing. So if there are other tasks you want to make sure are done before publishing, you can add as many of those as you want.
A list like this could not only improve the workflow of your WooCoomerce store, but also prevent surprises when a product is published.
